LearnOnline (a service of the CCDE)

Welcome to LearnOnline

The LearnOnline website has been designed as a resource for students taking online courses, perhaps for the first time.

Online courses, which are primarily delivered via the Internet using Blackboard, offer you an alternative means to gain U of S course credits at home. The courses are specifically chosen to ensure you as a student have a viable option as you complete your undergraduate degree or selected certificate program. Each course will be different depending on the content requirements and the learning expectations of the instructor.

An online course can take many forms and combinations. An online course can :

  • be a strictly text-based course.
  • be online text combined with a reading package or textbook, video cassettes, audio cassettes, or CD-ROM.
  • include graphics, animation, simulations, or tutorials.
  • be face-to-face and contain a web component. Course material, research, or background readings might be available online in addition to scheduled in-class discussions and presentations

Interaction is a key attribute of well-designed courses. Through live online chats or discussion forums, you can discuss issues or debate ideas with your instructor and fellow classmates. For live chats, both students and the instructor are online at the same time(synchronously). With discussion forums, the instructor and the students are usually not accessing the course site at the same time, providing time to think and reflect on answers prior to responding online (asynchronously).
